Behind the blog

How it all started

I started my loc journey in May 2024, motivated by my lifestyle as a busy mom of two. Between managing family, work, and everything in between, I wanted a hairstyle that was low-maintenance yet beautiful—and locs felt like the perfect fit. From the moment I locked my hair, I fell in love with the process, the look, and the way it made me feel confident and empowered.

Since then, my passion for locs has only grown. Inspired by my own experience, I decided to loc my two daughters’ hair as well, creating a shared journey of care, patience, and pride. Oh Yea Locs was born out of that love—a place where I can share tips, routines, and honest advice to help other moms, beginners, and loc enthusiasts embrace healthy, thriving locs for themselves and their families.

FAQ

The time it takes depends on your hair type, texture, and the method you use. Starter locs usually form in 3–6 months, while fully mature locs can take 12–24 months. Patience and proper care are key!

Washing depends on your scalp and lifestyle, but generally once a week is ideal. Use a residue-free shampoo and make sure your locs dry completely to prevent odor or mildew

Yes! Locs naturally shrink, especially in the beginning. This is normal and part of the locking process. Over time, locs will lengthen and mature as your hair grows.

Keep your scalp and locs moisturized with water, light oils (like jojoba or coconut), and leave-in conditioners. Avoid over-manipulation, harsh chemicals, or heavy buildup products

Yes! You can retwist at home, but be gentle to avoid tension or breakage. Most people retwist every 4–6 weeks, depending on hair growth and your maintenance routine.
